Nothing is sent until you press send in WhatsApp.

How it works

How to message someone on WhatsApp without saving their number

  1. 1

    Type or paste the number

Pick the country, or paste the full number and it picks itself. A WhatsApp username works too.

  2. 2

Add a first message, if you like

It waits in the chat for you to edit. Nothing goes out until you press send.

  3. 3

    Open the chat

On a phone, WhatsApp opens straight away. On a computer, choose WhatsApp Desktop or WhatsApp Web, or scan a code to carry on from your phone.

Questions

Opening a chat without saving the number

Go to walink.com/open, type or paste the phone number and press Open chat. WhatsApp opens on a chat with that number, and it is never added to your contacts. It is free and needs no account.

No. WhatsApp doesn't tell anyone whether you saved their number. Your message arrives like any other, showing your number and profile name.

No. The page builds the chat link on your device and hands it to WhatsApp, so the number and the message never reach Walink. The one exception is a wa.link you choose to create from the chat, which is stored so it can work.

Yes. Press Open chat and choose WhatsApp Desktop or WhatsApp Web. To carry on from your phone instead, choose On my phone and scan the QR code on screen.

WhatsApp tells you the number isn't on WhatsApp when it opens. If you think it should be, check the country code: the field drops a leading 0 and a repeated country code for you, so a number from another country is usually the cause.

Yes. Switch to Username and type it, with or without the @, or paste a wa.me link. WhatsApp opens the chat with that account, and you never see or need their phone number.

Give them a wa.link. A free one opens a chat with you in one tap, with an optional first message and a QR code, and it takes seconds to create with no account.

Open Walink moved to walink.com/open and was rebuilt. If open.wa.link is on your home screen, add this page in its place.
